Born on farm in Union Mills, but his father "sold it to the Ladds in 1895 and moved into Edmund for a year, living in the old Johnnie Sampson house until we could buy a home in Dodgeville."(FPJ letter to Vincent Baker) Spent many summers working on his uncle's farm (I assume this is John Maughan), from ages 10-20.

Entered high school at age 12 and graduated at age 16 in 1907.

Dodgeville Chronicle
4/14/1911: "Francis Jones returned to his duties as teacher in the Bloomington schools Saturday after having spent his vacation in this city."
7/7/1911: "Prof. Francis Jones went to Prairie du Chien Monday to play in the Bloomington Band at the celebration there."
9/15/1911: "Francis Jones will leave next week to take a course in the Northwestern university at Evanston, Ill."
1/12/1912: "Francis Jones left Monday to resume his studies at the Garrett Biblical Institute at Evanston, Ill."
5/17/1912: "Francis Jones went to Lakeville, Ill., Saturday where he will assist in conducting a series of revival meetings."
June 7, 1912: "Francis Jones left Monday for Evanston, Ill., where he has a position in the library of the Garrett Biblical Institute."
July 5, 1912: "Card of Thanks. We desire hereby to express our thanks to our dear friends who have helped and sympathized with us in our latest great sorrow. Mrs. Eva B. Jones, Francis and Dora Jones." [after Verna's death]
July 5, 1912: "Francis Jones went to Bloomington, Wis., Tuesday for a short visit with relatives." [I know of no relatives in Bloomington]
July 12, 1912: "Francis Jones returned Monday from a visit with friends in Bloomington, Wis."
July 19, 1912: "Francis Jones went to Evanston Saturday to work in the public library of that city."

[Do says] In 1929-30, for Francis' furlough, the family moved to New York and lived in the Claremont Apts. on Claremont Avenue. Do and Phil went to the Ethical Cultural School, Do in 5th grade and Phil in kindergarten. Ed went to public school.

Buried September 13, 1975 in the East Side Cemetery in Dodgeville, WI.

In Spring of 1921 returned on first furlough. Edwin was ill so they moved to Arizona where Francis taught "Americanization classes to Cornish miners in the copper mines at Bisbee, Ariz." (Undated LWJ bio of FPJ) The following year Francis taught in the Wesley College at the University of North Dakota, and did a great deal of traveling and speaking for the mission board. They returned to China in the summer of 1923.

Received Distinguished Alumnus Award from Univ. of Wis. Platteville in 1960.
